Shadow Mode vs Enforcing for AML Pilots

AML pilots need a rollout posture. Shadow mode lets your team observe screening and alert volume before changing the customer experience. Enforcing mode lets the product hold, reject, or route risky activity when the compliance team is ready.

Use Shadow Mode First

• Run screenings and AML events without changing customer-facing fulfillment.
• Review REVIEW, CONFIRMED, ALERTED, and HELD volume daily.
• Tune thresholds and investigation queues before enabling automatic holds.
• Compare alert volume against your operations team's review capacity.

Move to Enforcing Deliberately

Enforcing mode should be attached to clear product behavior. For onboarding, that may mean holding account activation. For money movement, that may mean delaying fulfillment until compliance approves the event.

Rollout Checklist

• Define which AML outcomes create a customer-facing hold.
• Store screening ids and externalEventId values in your case system.
• Give support teams a plain-language status for each held flow.
• Review false positives before expanding enforcing coverage.
